WREXHAM COUNTY BOROUGH COUNCIL UNITARY DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Wrexham County Borough Council's Unitary Development Plan 1996-2011 (UDP) was adopted in February 2005 and conforms with relevant Welsh Assembly Government policies. The plan 'provides a framework for local decision making and the reconciliation of development and conservation interests in order that land use changes proceed coherently and with maximum community benefit'.

The UDP make 12 strategic policy statements the first of which is: 'New development for housing, employment and community services will be directed to within defined settlement limits/employment areas'. The UDP defines a number of such settlements within the Wrexham area and these are shown on the maps accompanying the UDP.

The settlement areas defined by the UDP cross community boundaries in areas under review as follows:

Abenbury - part of the Llwyn Onn estate included within the Wrexham Town settlement
Abenbury - the Thornleigh development included within the Wrexham Town settlement
Broughton - part of the Community of Broughton is included within the Brymbo settlement
Holt - the Fairways development included within the Wrexham Town settlement
Minera - part of the Community of Minera is included within the Coedpoeth settlement
Gwersyllt - part of the Community of Gwersyllt is included within the Wrexham Town settlement
Gresford - part of the Community of Gresford is included within the Wrexham Town settlement
